Electoral Roll

SOUTHBROOM PARISH

Are you in parish, geographically?

The boundary goes along Conscience Lane (next to the cemetery) northwards includes Roundway Village, down Folly Road, and crosses the London Road into Coate Road; the eastern boundary includes Jump Farm estate and Eastleigh Road/Nursteed Road estate down to the Fox and Hounds Public House and, missing Sleight Cottages, swings round south of Green Lane/Roundway Hospital. The boundary then comes up Drews Pond Lane and Wick Lane, along Potterne Road and Southbroom, then behind Offers Court along to Sidmouth Street. Finally, it goes up Gains Lane, turning right to include Safeway and Estcourt Crescent, only just including the Old Vicarage (!) before crossing London Road bridge and going west along the canal to the cemetery.

What it means to be a Church Member

Within the life of the Body of Christ, Christians in general accept:

• A commitment to belonging in love, unity and forgiveness to all other Christians, beginning with the members of their own local congregation.
• A commitment to regular, corporate, renewing worship.
• A commitment to learning the Christian faith so that there is deepening confidence in what they believe and why.
• A commitment to putting Christian faith into action both in general and in the particular circumstances of their own life and work
• A commitment to take a responsible share in resourcing the Church and through regular and generous giving support its work, understood in the widest sense.
• A commitment to growth in holiness.

The Electoral Roll

This is the official membership list of the Church of England and anyone baptised and over the age of sixteen is entitled to be included if they live in the parish or attend the church. It gives the right to vote at the Annual Parochial Church Meeting where the elections take place for the parochial church council and for the parish’s representatives on the deanery synod.

Synodical government gives an opportunity for partnership between bishops, clergy, and laity in the life of the Church.
